Options For Parents Looking For Childcare

While parenting is extremely rewarding, it is not an easy task. This is especially true when parents work or attend school and must find reliable care for their children until they can return home. Multiple options are available for parents looking for childcare including childcare centers, in-home childcare, Head Start/Early Head Start programs, nannies, and family, friends, and neighbors. Parents should ask many questions when interested in childcare facilities and programs, such as the hours of operation, what curriculum is covered, cost, and inquiries about references. Parents should also consider their budget and what they want their child to learn. Childcare centers and in-home childcare are alike in many aspects, such as curriculum and handling children’s needs, but in-home childcare establishments are within the caregiver’s home. Head Start programs provide education, nutrition and health, and other services to low-income families. Nannies will come to the child-s home to provide care and may live with the family so he or she is available whenever care is needed. Another option is to have a family member, friend, or a neighbor care for the child. While family members, friends, and neighbors are not licensed or regulated, they are often the least expensive option.
